Study of a little boy painted by artonomous. This painting, the 8th study by artonomous, began as a photograph by Kitty Simpson that was loaded into the robot's memory. artonomous then took a photograph of the canvas and compared it to the photo, looking for the areas with the greatest difference. It then began the process of making the canvas look more like the photo by painting strokes on the canvas where it was the most different.
Every couple of strokes it retook a photo of the canvas, recalculated where the greatest differences were, then added more strokes to make it less different... over and over again in a creative feedback loop. In addition to this feedback loop there are multiple procedural AI programs guiding aesthetic decisions such as color selection and brush path, but the most important algorithm governing all the others is the feedback loop.
